Had to do something huuuuuge...really, really, really big. Had to share it with the running gals. These running gals have become affectionately known as the BFR...Best Friends Running. (Anne gets credit for creating the BFR term....clever...very clever....she is so witty.) We have shared running marathons, mountain biking, kayaking, camping, trail running, hiking, snowshoeing, adventure races, night runs, boot camps and even cycling to Grand Bend on our mountain bikes! What is next?
BFR HIKE THE BRUCE!!!
We are hiking the entire Bruce Trail!!! Over 800 km of the Niagara Escarpment from Niagara Falls to Tobermory! What an adventure it will be!
Who are we? In alphabetical order (not in order by age!)...Anne, Cheryl, Dianne, Jenn, Judy H, Judy M, Madelaine, Michelle, Sheila and Tanya. Ten runners decide to hike the Bruce!
Thanks..I mean big thanks to Madelaine for getting the ball rolling and for not letting this idea fizzle!
There is no deadline to complete the entire trail. We decided that hiking "fast" or "slow" wasn't important....but having fun along the way was of utmost importance! All 10 BFR's will complete the first and the very last hike together!
Amongst alot of laughter, our BFR hiking "code of conduct" was developed last night on our first official hike. The code is a work in progress and is constantly being tweeked! Watch for Michelle to post this soon!
The evening on Monday May 14, 2012 was our first official hike. Coordinating the schedules of 10 women was a challenge but Jude did it! Great job in coordinating our first hike and for not getting our cars towed or ticketed!
.....and there we stood at the entrance to the Bruce Trail that passes through Crawford Lake Conservation area....slapping on our bug spray, positioning our hydration packs and day packs, Jude tying a bear bell to her laces to scare the 400 lb bear that was sighted that very day, flipping through the trail maps, stuffing our packs with treats and checking the battery in our cameras...and off we went...oh wait ...we had to have a team shirt! Check...we got 'em...Michelle to post the pics soon! After an official picture or two, off we hiked down the Bruce Trail on our very first hike of many! It has begun!
I am so excited to "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" with my Best Friends Running! One step at a time we will hike the entire Bruce Trail!
....and so our 800 km adventure begins!
"Of all the paths you take in life, make sure some of them are dirt!"
...by the way...our first official hike only made a
4 km dent in the
800 km!
